Roles and Responsibilities

Patrols , which are part of a Scout group, are self- functioning teams of 6 to 8 scouts of different ages. Hence, patrols members will take up various patrol functions to help the patrol through their patrol life. While there are functional roles like the PL/APL, QM and Scribe that are necessary roles within all patrols, other patrol roles may be created by the patrol as they deem fit. Each member can also hold multiple roles that do not overlap in duties. The key is shared responsibilities, where every patrol member, regardless of age and experience, have an opportunity to practice leadership and contribute to their patrol's success.

The following are some of the the roles within Gryphon Scouts Group and their area of responsibilities:

Troop Leader

  • Oversee the planning and execution of quarterly plan at the troop level.
  • Ensure that the patrols stay on track of their termly plans.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of weekly scout meetings
  • Oversee the planning and execution of termly outdoor activities with the Patrol Leader's Council.
  • Mentor and assist all Patrol Leaders in the leadership of their respective patrols.

Patrol Leader

  • Oversee the planning and execution of quarterly patrol life plan at the patrol level.
  • Guiding patrol members in their personal goal setting.
  • Keep track and encouraging the progress of patrol members' personal goals.
  • Mentor all patrol members in their respective patrol roles.

Quarter-Master

  • Conduct quarterly QM stock check of all non patrol equipment under the QM.
  • Consolidated and request for funding for quarterly equipment top up from the leaders. Make purchases for top up and updated equipment list.
  • Issuing of top up equipment to PQM.
  • Train and mentor all PQM in their patrol duties.

Scribe

  • Take charged and maintain all troop level learning, teaching, planning and recording materials.
  • Assist TL in the proper record and documentation of the troop level termly plans.
  • Oversee and ensure the proper usages of online google drive records by the respective PLC members.
  • Record the minutes of all Patrol in Council.


Patrol Scribe

  • Take charged and maintain all patrol level learning, teaching, planning and recording materials.
  • Ensure that all scout progress are properly recorded.
  • Record the minutes of all discussion during Patrol Time.
  • Assist activity IC in preparation of required information, material or notes prior to training.

Patrol Cook

  • Ensure menus are catered properly to suit all Patrol member's diet restrictions (Eg. Halal, Vegetarian).
  • Ensure purchasing and cooking of ingredients are done in a hygienic and systematic manner.
  • Ensure that all cooking utensils are functional and properly cleaned after use.

Patrol Quarter-Master

  • Conduct monthly stock count for equipment in patrol box to ensure that there are sufficient equipment to run activities. PQM to request QM for equipment top up when necessary.
  • Conduct regular patrol equipment maintenance.



Assistant Patrol Leader

  • Assist Patrol Leader in all his duties and responsibilities.
  • Take leadership of the patrol when PL is not around or when there are no patrol activity IC.

Patrol Welfare

  • Take charged and maintain all patrol level learning, teaching, planning and recording materials.
  • Ensure that all scout progress are properly recorded.
  • Record the minutes of all discussion during Patrol Time.
  • Assist activity IC in preparation of required information, material or notes prior to training.

Patrol Timer
