Roles and Responsibilities

Patrols are part of the Scout group and yet at the same time a self functioning team of 6 to 8 scouts from different ages. Hence, patrols members will take up various patrol functions to help the patrol through their patrol life. While there are functional roles like the PL/APL, QM and Scribe that are necessary roles within all patrols, other patrol roles may be created by the patrol as they deem fit. Each member can also hold multiple roles that do not overlap in duties. The key is shared responsibilities, where every patrol member, regardless of age and experience, have an opportunity to practice leadership and contribute to their patrol's success.

The following are some of the the roles within Gryphon Scouts Group and their area of responsibilities:

Troop Leader

  • Oversee all activities
  • Ensure that all Scout progress are properly recorded
  • Ensure all Patrol Leaders are working closely with their Patrols

Patrol Leader

  • Set clear goals for Patrol to work towards to
  • Guiding Patrol members to set a monthly plan that work them towards their personal goals
  • Keep track of the progress of Patrol members
  • Oversee patrol activities

Assistant Patrol Leader

  • Assist Patrol Leader to work Patrol towards Patrol goal
  • Ensure that Quater-Master and Scribe doing their work



Patrol Quater-Master

  • Regular stock count for equipment in patrol box such that there are sufficient equipment to run activities
  • Ensure that all equipment are well-maintained

Patrol Scribe

  • Record feedback during PIC
  • Record minutes during Patrol Time discussion
  • Prepare required notes prior training

Patrol Cook

  • Ensure menus are catered for all Patrol members (Eg. Halal, Vegetarian)
  • Ensure purchasing and cooking of ingredients are done in a hygienic manner
  • Ensure that all cooking utensils are properly cleaned after use
